Negative Charisma

imagesThis is my new favorite term. I’m reading How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (something I’m already very good at) and the author diagnoses himself as having negative charisma, basically meaning that without knowing or even meeting him people hate him. Aldous and I have been searching for years for the perfect term to describe this phenomena because we happen to be oozing negative charisma. Wherever we go, people instantly hate us, we could make enemies in a convent. In some ways, it’s not that surprising. Like at work we were famous for fake sleeping when someone we didn’t like would start talking, we constantly made the gun to the head gesture in meetings and sometimes when people were talking to us we would just burst out laughing and walk away. But even when we are on our best behavior, which was one time, and feign friendliness and enthusiasm, people still wanted to curb us. I guess they could tell that deep down we’re silently judging them and thinking of ways to make fun of them later. We’re awesome.
